"Establishing and operating a postal and philatelic museum had been a long-standing request by the customers of the Hellenic Post and particularly by the philatelic community. The project had finally received state support in 1966. It was in 1970 (year of founding of the Hellenic Post Organization) that a great effort was initiated, involving the collection and classification of the museum's material along with the search for the appropriate site to host the museum. The solution was finally given by the Stratos family. Thus the museum started its operation on the 30th of October 1978 as a branch of the Hellenic Post."
